This is a second-year, elective MBA course that students may take after taking the mandatory, first-year Finance sequence. The course draws approximately 80% of the material from issues related to Portfolio Management and Investments and 20% from issues related to Corporate Finance. The course is applied and practical and ultimately seeks to provide future practitioners with widely-used tools, concepts, and analytical frameworks. The topics discussed include long-term trends (return; risk; forecasting); risk revisited (the three-factor model; downside risk); risk and return (risk-adjusted returns; stars and costs); asset allocation (asset classes and financial instruments; portfolio choice and rebalancing; portfolio optimization in Excel); and emerging markets (performance; practitioners' views on investing; risk; cost of capital; project evaluation). When time allows the course also includes some debates and specials guests.
